About Thunderegg Press

Thunderegg Press was founded in 2002 by Bruce Tucker in Corvallis, Oregon. After a series of changes, Chris Wagner reestablished operations in the North San Francisco Bay Area. Thunderegg Press is part of an ongoing rise of micro and small presses developing in the realm of super bookstores and mega publishing. In a recent estimate, Publisher Weekly noted at least 50,000 small publishers in the United States, and 7,000 new publishers starting each year. Even though Thunderegg Press has minimal financial influence compared with big commercial publishers, it contributes to the reading community in terms of the nature of the works it features. The press is particularly interested in emerging and established voices often ignored or dismissed by large trade houses. Thunderegg also keeps titles in print for longer periods than traditional publishers, so that authors have more opportunities to reach their readers. Members of the press contribute with diverse skills, and in so doing, shape the ongoing focus of the press.

A Word from the Publisher

"I'm thinking of asking the servants to wax my change before placing it in the Chinese tank I keep on my dresser."  I was hooked right from the start.  Imagine for me; two-thirty in the morning, I'm famished, the cats are whining and pawing at me, and I'm still firmly planted in my easy chair.  When I open a book, I thrust away the world of web pages, kanji, debugging, and phone calls and dive into a world of excitement, misdirection, suspense, and witty rhetoric.

I've been living two lives for ten years; one a computer technician, the other a book worm.  In my work for Thunderegg Press, I explore both worlds, gain new understandings every day, and love every minute of it.  Who could ask for more?

Secrets of a Wetback Warrior - Alberto Ledesma

Secrets of a Wetback Warrior tells the fictional story of Luis Acosta's coming of age as a precocious undocumented immigrant kid who manages to escape one brush with deportation after another. Infatuated with helping his parents escape their dreadful living conditions in the ghetto, Luis grapples with the ethical contradictions of being undocumented and fighting for social justice. Along the way, Luis discovers that he can overcome most obstacles by not panicking and being quick on his feet. Soon, his skills with language land him in places one would not expect to find undocumented immigrants.

"Secrets of a Wetback Warrior" is an excerpt from Alberto Ledesma's story collection, UNDOCUMENTED X-INGS. Mr. Ledesma is currently preparing his collection for publication.

The Book of Silala - Joe Evanisko

Part community journal, part litany, The Book of Silala is a compilation of first-person narratives from a northern California village struggling to sustain trust and grassroots sensibilities in the face of corrosive forces. Although the tug and prowl of machismo has long been mitigated by a revered elder, Isabel Stanislaw, her death leads to the psychic unraveling of her friends and loved ones. As a result, grieving, land squabbles, secret intimacies, and assaults of various kinds test the central ties and beliefs in the community.

Rhubarb Pie - Janet Thornburg

Janet Thornburg's collection of eight short stories begins with a middle-aged Nebraska farm wife cutting off her hair and heading for San Francisco. It ends with a pregnant lesbian from San Francisco climbing aboard a train bound for the Heartland. In the stories along the way, rural meets urban, the past collides with the present, and travelers pass through stormy weather. Readers who join these travelers discover that in spite of the struggles, or perhaps because of them, we're all in this together.
